About
Dr. Catron received his Bachelor of Arts in Physics with a Minor in Chemistry from The University of Virginia and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He was then accepted into the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine. Remaining at UAB, he continued his subspecialty training and recently completed his three-year Fellowship in Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Dr. Catron attributes his enthusiasm for gastroenterology to his early years of medical school, where he found the gastroenterology & hepatology curriculum to be the most engaging. “The various degrees of acuity, interventional procedures, and complexity of disease highly appeal to my desire for a broad spectrum of clinical practice within a subspecialty field. Practicing gastroenterology satisfies my goals of perpetuating excellent care for patients while simultaneously maintaining expertise in a specific set of skills and clinical awareness.” Dr. Catron provides exceptional care to patients in all areas of general gastroenterology. He has a special interest in treating patients who suffer from inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), GI motility disorders, GERD, liver disease, and functional GI disorders. He provides thorough diagnostic evaluations and respective therapies for all abdominal and bowel-related complaints. Dr. Catron also enjoys providing comprehensive GI care and ensuring overall health through preventative medicine. He is skilled in performing colonoscopy, colorectal cancer screening, colon polyp removal, EMR, upper endoscopy (EGD), dilation therapy, Barrett’s esophagus ablation, and PEG tube placement. Dr. Catron is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
