Daniel P. Mulloy, MD is a cardiothoracic surgeon with Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates, primarily based at Chippenham Hopsital in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Mulloy earned his Bachelor of Arts at Yale University and completed medical school at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His residency training was at the University of Washington in Seattle where he was a chief resident in general surgery. Dr. Mulloy subsequently completed two post-doctoral fellowships in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery Research both at the University of Virginia Health System. He is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. Mulloy is a noted researcher and his work has been published in multiple medical journals and cardiothoracic surgery textbooks. He recently received the “Outstanding Article of the Year” award from the Healthcare Cost & Utilization Project for his examination on the relative costs of heart transplantation vs. left ventricular assist device (LVAD) placement. Dr. Mulloy’s clinical interests include the breadth of adult cardiac surgery. He was the director of the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program and surgical director of the mechanical circulatory support (MCS) program and at his prior institution. He has additional clinical expertise in coronary artery bypass, treatment of aortic valve pathology including trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and aortic root reconstruction, mitral valve repair, and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation.
