Michael Ellwood, PhD

Dr. Ellwood has been with LifeStance Health Associates since June of 2001. He has also worked as a staff psychologist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center since March of 2001, where he is assigned to the Spinal Cord Injury and Disease unit. Other previous experience includes an assistant professorship of psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia. In that position, Dr. Ellwood provided assessments and treatment for geriatric, chronically ill, and pain patients and their families. Dr. Ellwood provides a full range of clinical psychological services, including psychological and neuropsychological evaluations in the Hanover office. His approach to therapy is cognitive behavioral and solution focused. Dr. Ellwood works with children, school age and up, adults, couples, families, and groups. He enjoys working with couples to resolve marital issues. Other areas of interest include pain management and coping with physical disabilities. Dr. Ellwood received his BA in Psychology from Hamilton College in Clinton NJ. His MS, as well as his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, was completed at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Ellwood is also a certified forensic evaluator for the state of Virginia.
