Tejwant Datta, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon in Richmond, Virginia. He has been serving the Richmond area since 2010, successfully establishing both a bariatric and robotic surgery program in the Petersburg area.

Dr. Datta is a graduate from The George Washington University where he received a degree in Economics. He earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He remained in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to complete his residency in General Surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center where he also completed a clinical elective in bariatric surgery at The Cleveland Clinic. During his residency, Dr. Datta served as chief resident and was awarded the Ghosh Award for outstanding performance. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Datta is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He also is trained in da Vinci robotic surgery and is a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Datta has extensive experience in the most advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques for minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. In addition, he is highly skilled in complex hernia procedures, esophageal, and intestinal surgeries. He has twice been named a "Top Doctor" by Richmond Magazine.

He currently welcomes new patients and referrals.
